People can get married within six days of arriving in Alderney.
A recent change has meant that people can get married in the island within six days of arriving as opposed to the original 16 days. This review of timings allows for people to be resident for three days prior to giving notice for a special licence, including one day which must elapse before the wedding ceremony. For those looking for a religious service on the island, there is the opportunity to be married by the Methodist Church.
Marriages by special licence.
Marriages by licence or certificate must take place in the island’s Courthouse. Marriages by special licence can take place in the Courthouse, a private house, the Anne French Room or the Braye Beach Hotel. The latter is a luxurious 4 star hotel standing picture-perfect on the edge of Alderney’s finest sandy beach. This stylish and elegant hotel offers the highest standards of food, accommodation and personal service.
Ideal places for scenic photographs.
There are a variety of hotels and guest houses on the island, for you and your guests to stay in, each within walking distance of ideal places for scenic photographs and wedding breakfasts to remember.
The other difference is timing. A marriage by licence or certificate can take place between 8am and 3pm. A special licence can be at any time of the day, even under the clear night sky.
